Popped in on the off chance they would be open, Yes! And well worth it. Hand pulled Ales Lagers everything you'd expect from a great Pub. Live Music and food at the weekends makes for a good night out
Booked The Gate to host a christening for my little boy at. I paid a deposit and then learned from a friend who had seen it on Facebook that they were leaving (the landlord and landlady were) just 3 days before the christening. They hadn't bothered to contact and let me know. I went to c the landlord and he seemed very disorganised and didn't know what was happening. I asked for my cash deposit back which I had paid weeks before and he said he didn't have it and it took me weeks to get it back from him and I kept having to chase it. The pub was empty every time I went and they were struggling to get a new landlord to run the pub clearly. They were disorganised and seemed to not know what was going off and didn't provide me with much confidence at all. I ended up having to find another venue to have my son's christening at just 3 days before the christening and it was extremely stressful. I wouldn't recommend anybody going here to host a party at or eat or drink at. The landlord was very rude and he didn't seem to have many drinks in stock at all. The whole place seemed dark gloomy, dated and needed a good clean and dust. Wouldn't ever go back.
No one in on a Friday night just landlord landlady singing not good.... beer was terrible Doombar SHOULD NOT TASTE LIKE VINEGAR only redeeming feature was a good pool table not been in for 15 years will be another 15 before I go back. Under new management now so I'm guessing it's 100 times better
Lovely local pub, can't fault it. Live music good drinks.
How can people be negative about this place. If you want the best home cooked roast dinner you could ever eat please try it.Value excellent had lamb brisket it's so tender you need a spoon because it is so tender it just melts away.And even the small dinner you will struggle to eat the portions are so generous.Glad I have found this place .And the hosts are brilliant. Just don't leave.Steve ironville.
